PE147 / HW142 -- Rescue Diver
This two-credit, fall-semester course provides classroom, pool, open-water, and Medic First Aid training for certification as a PADI Rescue Diver and Medic First Aid provider. The prerequisite for PE147 is PE146/HW141 or equivalent.
Classroom training includes rescue videos, lectures, and a final examination.
Pool training introduces basic rescue skills.
Open-water training includes twelve supervised rescue exercises on two days; the final three exercises are rescue scenarios involving team action.
Medic First Aid certification is required for Rescue Diver certification. (Alternatively, this requirement can be satisfied by CPR certification from a nationally recognized agency such as the American Red Cross.) Medic First Aid is included in PE147.
Each student must provide full open-water gear as required for PE146/HW141 . In addition, each student must provide a slate and compass. A logbook is required for certification. The course requires the PADI Rescue Diver manual.
Open-water training for Pace University credit usually is done locally. However, under exceptional circumstances, it could be done in the Caribbean during the summer. (See the travel portions of this web site.)
